Hunter S Thompson dies
Well, you've probably all already heard about it on the news by now, but...
From the BBC
Hunter S Thompson, the American counterculture writer, has been found dead at his home in Colorado.
He shot himself and his body was found by his son, Juan. He was 67.
He is best-known for his 1972 account of a drug-addled Nevada trip, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Other books are Hells Angels and Generation of Swine.
He pioneered "gonzo journalism", a factual style in which the writer was an essential part of the story.

Another uncultured one here too, lol. Saying that 'tho I looked on my bookcase and found the book and I think I've seen the movie too but only 'cos of the Johnny Depp goodness

I've only read 'Fear & Loathing...' but he's a writer I seem to have come across quite a bit recently. Had him quoted at me just the other day, which was really odd.
I did a short paper on that book back at uni. I remember liking his style. May hafta look up some of his other stuff.

I have his Hell's Angels book, but never found time to read it. He predicted that Bush would lose the election hugely, so that must have been a disappointment.
Thompson was regarded as the inspiration for Spider Jerusalem of Metropolitan. Have I mentioned that series before..?

Transmetropolitan is very good. I still need to get hold of the final book.
Posted: 10:37 Feb 22 2005 Which was odd, even most people who wanted Bush to lose recognised that it was going to be close and that Bush was likely to have a slight edge. It's this sort of thing that limits his credibility in some areas -- over focus on elements they're emotionally invested in, which is a real shame.

Another one here who was very sad when he heard this. First John Peel and now Hunter. Soon there'll be no more heroes living any more, at this rate at least.
