Live 8 Concert Comments

Who's been watching? I've watched most of it (I nipped out for supplies when Ms Dynamite was on and missed Keane as well) but I thought I'd come and post now while UB40 are on coz I think they're a bit rubbish especially compared with some of teh acts today!

I can't believe Bill Gates showed up in Hyde Park! Totally unexpected.

Highlights so far have to be U2 and Sir Paul performing Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, Sir Elton and Pete Docherty doing Children of the Revoloution, Coldplay giving a nod to Staus Quo, Travis working Staying Alive into Sing complete with really high voices and REM just rocked!

Also loved Ricky Gervais getting heckled when he came on to introduce REM with 'Do the Dance' and he actually did it with the crowd supplying the noises. Classic TV! lol

Of course this is all about putting pressure on the G8 nations so please go and add your name to the Live 8 List in support of the 3 point plan to make Poverty history so it can be presented to the G8 Summit.

Looking forward to Robbie, Sissor Sisters, and above all Pink Floyd later on

I've been watching since about 3.30 so i missed the good stuff at the beginning

It has been quite entertaining so far though. UB40 did quite a big set compared to some of the other big bands which was odd, but they finished with a relatively ok song though.

Was hoping to see more of the Philedelphia one cos their line up is better than ours, but, alas, no

And now we've got Snoop Doggy Dog... wtf

Indeed... very annoyed we missed U2 and Paul McCartney, but there ya go.

Keane were good, and everybody else has been passable, but nothing exceptional.

Looking forward to seeing Sting, The Who, Pink Floyd and, if she sings her old stuff, Mariah Carey in Hyde Park, and hopefully some Bon Jovi, Will Smith and others in Philly.

Edit: Nice of the BBC not to beep out the explicit lyrics in Snoop Dogg's songs. Never thought i'd here the big Muther bomb on BBC1 at 6:30pm.

Edit: Nice of the BBC not to beep out the explicit lyrics in Snoop Dogg's songs. Never thought i'd here the big Muther bomb on BBC1 at 6:30pm.

Just logged on to comment about that myself! A TV first (and possibly last maybe!)

As for the Philly show, the BBC are showing it in its entirety after the Hydepark show has finished (about 9:30 - 10pm ish) so if you are willing to stay up til 3am you can watch it all

Aha, excellent. I thought they were just jumping into the Philly show at whatever point it was up to. Won't want to stay up and see all of it, but hopefully i'll see some of the good stuff.

And... Duran Duran aren't very good live :S

Having said that, a lot of the bands seem to be suffering from bad sound setups. When they piped the Black Eyed Peas through from Philly they sounded horrible.

Yeah, but as you said, that seemed to be mostly due to the sound set up they had going on. Seemed extremely naff.

Really hope Mariah does her early stuff, especially Hero. I loved her stuff back then, but now she's gone all nasty, so fingers crossed people. Want Paul McCartney to come back on, and U2 too.

Got Razorlight atm, not heard a great deal of their stuff before, but they seem alright.

Loved Madonna's set.. totally amazing and worked the crowd up fantastically. I was really moved when they brought on that gorgeous woman from one of the early Live Aid films who;d surviced because of teh funds raised 20 years ago.

just for lil_miss: According to some info I picked up off the BBC website yesterday Mariah will be singing Make it Happen and Vision of Love having said that a couple of the song indications on my list have been wrong! And Macca is back at the end to sing The Long and Winding Road and something else for the finale.

Yup, we thought that was a really good bit too. Very nice way of illustrating the benefits of aid. Stringy little mite on the edge of death to grown up, gorgeous woman, because of aid that had gone through.

I hope the BBC gets swamped with complaints over the swearing. They deserve it for being prats and agreeing to broadcast the whole thing but without showing most of the videos etc because they "can't be seen to be supporting a cause"

Madonna's pretty much been pick of the bunch so far have to say. Looking forward to Velvet Revolver (only band on the London lineup I actually listen to) and Pink Floyd.

I missed Bill Gates, what did the big cheese have to say?

Brad Pitt's spot was good, he's an excellent speaker, shouldn't die his hair like that though. Jolie looked great as always.

I enjoyed Will Smith's opening speech in Philly, he's a *really* good speaker.

EDIT: Are U2 doing a proper set? They're the best current band on the line up, be a pity if they don't do a full set.

From what I've seen so far, Madonna's set was excellent. As was REM's, Stereophonics and Scissor Sisters.

Could do without seeing Craig David from Paris though.

Pity we couldn't have had Green Day at London as well.

Would be interesting to see who they have at the Toronto gig too.

Ooh, cool. Velvet Revolver on now as well....

EDIT: Are U2 doing a proper set? They're the best current band on the line up, be a pity if they don't do a full set.

U2 did a 3 song set after performing with Macca, so they were teh first proper set of the day... They did Beautiful Day, One and Vertigo. Very good they were too!
