Of course, i'd have been happy if it had been a Who concert and nobody else had been on

i watched it in the afternoon and i was pleased to see they showed Green Day's set and i thought the start was really effective with U2 and Paul McCartney. I also got called in to see Velvet Revolver too which was cool. I missed though most of it in the evening and the end cos i was in the garden

I watched it from start to beginning.

He was really funny. Robbie was like a dog on heat around Fearne.

Madonna was just as crap as I expected (boring woman trying to be "rock" ), glad Sir Bob Geldoff sang, Scissor Sisters were awesome, Joss Stone picked the wrong songs to sing, Coldplay were good as usual and Robbie Williams was amazing.

Highlights so far have to be U2 and Sir Paul performing Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, Sir Elton and Pete Docherty doing Children of the Revoloution, Coldplay giving a nod to Staus Quo, Travis working Staying Alive into Sing complete with really high voices and REM just rocked!

I must have been watching a different channel to you, because I wouldn't have called Pete Doherty's virtual destruction of a classic T. Rex track a highlight - it was painful. Only Elton and his band stopped it from breaking down completely.

I recorded the lot because I was at a concert myself (a totally different type of music though) and I've only just caught up watching the Hyde Park section.

I'm afraid that I am not a fan of either U2 or Coldplay, but I did enjoy the first ever live performance of Sgt. Pepper. - just the 38 years after it was originally recorded.

Joss Stone has a voice which beggars belief and she certainly did a better job than Dido, who was so out of tune I sat with a permanent wince on my face. She recovered for the cover of Seven Seconds.

Snoop Dog needed to be shot for his choice of songs, or the organisers should have realised the likelyhood of the content and stuck him on well past the watershed.

Performances which I enjoyed in particular included Keane, Razorlight, Velvet Revolver, The Scissor Sisters & REM (though what did Michael Stipe have on his face, and why?!). I thought Madonna's set was excellent (and I'm not a particular fan). In the end, however, the likes of Elton, Sting, The Who, Pink Floyd & Annie Lennox showed that while fashions (and groups) come and go, class is permanent and they really showed the youngsters how it was done.

The only exception with the youngsters was Robbie. He was Live 8's Freddie Mercury (and played on that with his opening - though it's a shame he goes to those lengths and then doesn't learn the lyrics) and was the act which had the crowd really going with him.

I kinda wish they'd done a separate comeback show because this is too depressing for a Live 8 gig. At least The Who rocked.

But the crowd were really into it! Even people who weren't born last time they performed together were singing along. Their set was amazing and I really can't believe they've been away for 24 years. Wish You Were Here was really emotional and stirring people's emotions is what today has all been about.

I agree with both of you to a degree. Yes, the Floyd set didn't have the "omph" of a Robbie or The Who, but the crowd where giving them a much better reception than some of the earlier acts and the occasion was that it was the first time that line-up had been together for 24 years and you wouldn't have known. And yes, Wish you were here was an appropriate choice in my opinion too.

Macca for some reason didn't get them going as I would have expected. I've seen some of the stuff from his recent tour on TV and I was blown away by the energy he was generating, but it wasn't there this time. Maybe it wasn't helped that I've heard Hey Jude sung en-masse at these kinds of events so many times it's starting to grate on me. Having opened with Sgt. Pepper, it may have been appropriate to close with the reprise version as per the album - that would have got them bouncing.

Other than the clips shown by the BBC, I haven't watched any of the Philadelphia show yet. Some of the stuff I had read leading up to this seems to infer that there's more R&B which as it generally leaves me cold, I'll probably find that in a few weeks time I still haven't watched it (either than or I'll be busy with the FF button in search of some ROCK!)

R&B/Rap is more popular in recent years than rock/metal, so I think that's to be expected. I'm a fan of Velvet Revolver, but it's puzzling as to why they were put on the line-up because they're not popular in the mainstream and heavy rock isn't exactly popular with the general public.

I agree. Hardly anyone seemed to actually know who they were!

what! i thoguht pink floyd were fantastic, i sat there all day waiting for them to play, and i was a bit gutted at their choice of tunes, as i would've picked a few different ones but thats just my opinion! but they certainly didn't bring me down and i can't say i really noticed a change in the mood of the crowd either
