i was really surprised actually listening to it on the radio once they'd announced it. I really thought Paris was going to get it.

But good on London, at least all the money they've spent in preparing the bid hasn't gone to waste as such. And even as a northerner i'm pleased for London and down south hehe

Potentially good news for Stratford, if the "regeneration" doesn't turn into gentrification (in Stratford, nah), but the Blair camp, who had sod all to do with the actual bid, will treat it as a major vote of endorsement.

Least it might finally sort the bloody Tube out.

IÂ’m quite pleased. I just hope the ticket prices for the swimming arenÂ’t as extortionate as they were for the Commonwealth games!

It would have been great to see them in Manchester 5 years ago (mainly as it was just down the road from where I live!) but having seen the Sydney games on TV it made me realise that no city in this country, outside London, is big enough to host them.

Go London Means you have a few years of building and a few week in 2012 in which half the city will be in a complete grid lock but after that at least the tubes and the roads etc should be improved a lot more than they would have otherwise

i think it's great that we won the bid, the redevelopment should bring in pleanty of job prospects

I'm so overjoyed, I was really hoping we'd get it, especially since I'm only a few stops away from Stratford on the train, and have seen all the hard work they've done already in the area, and all the campaigning they've been doing.

I'm really pleased. I shall make sure I go to a few events when the time comes.

I've not decided how i feel about this yet. Yeah it's cool that it'll be so close cos there's a few things i would love to see, such as gymnastics, horse stuff and track and field events, but on the other hand, will it be worth all the disturbance? I know it's a huge source of revenue and all that so it's cool that way too...

A while off yet though, i'm sure i'll have made my mind up by then Should be a qualified GP or nearly by then too... scary

According to the article house prices are going to soar, is that purely for that area of London or are we talking anywhere in the M25? That'll make life so much easier for first time buyers.

And the currently crippled transport system will most likely grind to a halt. End of. Saying that though, there is 7 years to get the Olympic village built. What's gonna take priority? The village or the list of already urgent requirements that Mr livingstone needs to see to?

I'm glad that by the time 2012 arrives I'll be too old to be wanting to go into London to play all the time. Getting around is gonna be hell

Well hopefully it won't be all doom and gloom. Apparently the plan is to turn the village into cheap housing for key workers (nurses/teachers etc) afterwards. Which will be nice. And Stratford is a hole. Has a nice train station though...
