Explosions on the Underground
The entire London Underground network has been closed due to an alleeged power surge between Liverpool Street and Aldgate, causing explosions.
Have been told to report for work as the network may be running a special service as soon as all is clear.

Charles Clarke - Underground will be closed for atleast the rest of the day

Im watchign bbc but im getting it thru internet people who are either in london, know people who are on the scene in london or they're reading internet reports everywhere
Just had this notice circulated at work about network busy for mobile phones:
(Edited by Sydney 07/07/2005 12:51)
This will apply to all networks today
Due to the incidents across London today, Vodafone have invoked a procedure whereby cellular bandwidth is prioritised to government and emergency services.
You may well get a full signal but you may not be able to make/recv calls
All sorts of rumours fly around in situations like this. For the sake of calm, can we please keep posts to confirmed news only.
Blimey! Something I agree with *shock*

Just spoke to Jimi and he's fine. He's trapped in Central London and is off to the Fox for a drink 'cos if he's gonna go he's gonna have a beer in his hand
Hey folks,
I live just behind the British Medical Association, and cycled down the road where the bus blew up this morning, though before the incident.
The pavements & roads were already packed with people walking to work as the tube network had already closed by then. It must'be been pretty horrific.
At the moment, everyone's been advised to stay put where you are as the tubes & buses & network rail services to London have all been suspended.

I'm not sure it's entirely appropriate to get into a debate over this subject right now. It's still very fresh.
Advice just published for people in and around London
The following advice has been issued by the emergency services to people in London today
· Stay where you are
· Don't travel into the city unless it an absolute emergency
· The Met continues to respond to 999 emergency calls but non-emergency calls will have a seriously delayed response
· Do not dial 999 if worried about relatives - the Metropolitan police will release a number soon.
· If you have minor injuries, use other healthcare services: pharmacist, walk-in centres or ring NHS Direct on 0845 4647
· If you need hospital treatment, use a taxi or get a lift from a friend or family member
· Do not contact police unless you have a genuine emergency
· Travel into London will be affected over the next few days
And there was me supposed to be using both those modes of transport today, in & out of Kings Cross, as it happens.

Underground has been closed.
GNER have cancelled all trains in and out of London.
Just glad I moved my plans from this morning to this afternoon.
I'd rather not get there today than not get there ever...
