This thread could be considered as spoilerish, however, as it's plastered on the main stream press, I don't think it's much of an issue.

Captain America is dead.

Seriously. Taken out by a sniper while handcuffed and entering a court house. That's the fate of one of America's greatest comic book heroes.

The mainstream press have even caught onto it, in today's Metro is had a full page article, complete with art work. I'd hazard a guess that the way he died has a lot to do with it. When Superman died, it was an epic struggle against a ferocious foe. Steve Rodgers was shot in the back.

Controversial? A bit. Superhero deaths have quite a history. In the 90s, the greatest hero of them all, Superman, was killed by the behemoth Doomsday in an epic battle that also claimed the beast's life. Jean Grey has died more times than i've had hot dinners, Jason Todd, the second Robin died as a result of a reader's telephone poll. Of course, they all came back eventually, in various ways and guises.

Will Cap be back? Marvel of course wouldn't like to say, but it's damn likely.

For now though, it's goodbye Captain America.
