I've just been looking at this elsewhere. Wonder what the triangle with the circle inside relates to... The object in that spot has been significant in previous novels.

Harry Potter and the Dealthy Hallows - Bookjacket Revealed
The book's publisher, Bloomsbury, has unveiled the bookjackets for the seventh and final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Previous Potter books have sold over 325m copies, and of course the final one is highly anticipated.
I know i've got my pre-order.

What d'ya reckon? The adult one is a non-entity for me, doing seperate covers for adults is stupid. I'm not keen on the normal one though, the style seems tweaked slightly and something about it, which I can't place, puts me off.

Well I'll be getting the children's cover version, cos that's what I've got for all the other books, but I can't say I'm overly keen on it either... I think it's something to do with their faces... they just look a bit crap...

The adult cover for The Order of the Phoenix looked like a snapshot from a Nuremberg rally, so in that sense it's an improvement. But really, if you're going to read a children's book, at least have the guts to admit it.
That said, the children's cover is pretty rubbish, so I couldn't blame people for buying the adult version.

Its not a childrens book, its an all ages book, so hush.
The childs cover is rank but then i never like them, but thats the one ill be being to complete my set lol.

All my other books are the kids covers so I'll be getting the same again. However I think this time the drawing is much sharper, and a little bit more grown up/ serious. I understand why, but I'm still not sure I like it.

I havent pre-ordered yet because i dont want to wait till the morning so ill drive to tesco/asda at midnight lol....but i might order it too incase tesco/asda sell out....saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad git.

It seems to me like a classic case of prescriptive versus descriptive marketing. Nobody ever used to both about this sort of thing when it came to Tolkien or C.S. Lewis, as far as I know.
Did anyone honestly even think that titles might need separate covers until publishing companies started putting out two sets with the suggestion that it was "Just in case someone spotted you reading that..." *ominous thunderclap* "...CHILDREN'S BOOK!"?
Posted: 22:59 May 20 2007 Well to be completely honest I can fully understand the publishers in this matter. You have two clearly different demographics who both clearly like the book however the requirements for a book cover for both demographics are completely different. It would be very hard to create a cover which appealed to both the very young (8+) and the 35+ age bracket. So if you consider the enormous volumes in which these books are printed it's financially viable to actually create two covers.

This means you can have a very mature cover and a very childish cover were otherwise you would need to have one in between. It's also a very good piece or marketing as although I seriously doubt that if they had created an "in between" cover that with the current popularity of the book it would have mattered very much. But by creating a very childish cover and create the "fear" of being seen reading a clearly children's book it does mean that you are now more likely to have more than one copy of a book in one household which with exception of some religious books doesn't happen very often. As self-conscious mum/dad can't take the kids book onto the train into work...

actually, its fairly common for books to have different covers in different markets - this is just an extension of this in to different demographics.
i think the early editions of these books have different covers from the later editions as well...

Like Chamb said, it's a clever bit of marketing, and they wouldn't do it if it didn't work.
At least they haven't started having different titles ala UK and US editions of the same book. (Churchill was a notable victim of this sort of thing.)

(biting tongue) are not a very nice company.
I pre-ordered the audio book at beginning of June, with the kids cover as have previous book in that cover & wanted to match. I received an e-mail at 7.35pm on friday saying that they wouldn't be able to fulfil my order. Bit bloomin late. Only offering £5 vouchers and free p&p when it comes in (not stating when) so cancelled with them and then ordered through Waterstones online and now waiting for delivery
I've got a copy of the book from Sainsbury but quite tricky as smaller type face than Half Blood Prince and eyes pretty bad at mo, hopefully audio will be here soon.
(Amazon are now stating 1-3 weeks for delivery- so glad I cancelled) The complaints on Amazon's posting boards are now building, and quite a few on BBC news one too, definitely more than the 1% that Amazon are stating.
