Never had any bad luck on Ebay. I once bought a fake designer top but I knew it was fake. The quality was really crap and I never wore it.
Ever been ripped off on Ebay?
After many successful purchases, I finally fell foul of an unscrupulous seller on Ebay. A game I bought turned out to be a pirated copy, and eventually found out the product wouldn't work 100%.
You hear about all the knock of clothing and other branded goods on Ebay, but has anyone ever really been caught out?
Was the description cleverly written or did they flat out lie about what you were getting?
Has it turned you off Ebay, or does the chance of a bargain draw you back just the same?

once - sort of...
caught an auction for aq dr who S1 box set with 1 minute to go - read through all the details, sounded legit, put in a bid only marginally higher then the "extremely low) high bid - and won, with 1 second to go.
paid immediately via paypal, got confirmation the money had gone, then got another email saying that ebay had pulled the auction for irregularities, and my money had been refunded.
2 days later, a thin jiffy-bag turned up, containing a bunch of copied discs...
funnily enough, i neer even got round to trying them out - theyre still downstairs somewhere...

I got done once for a Star Wars autograph although it was all Paypal protected and I got all my money back. My mate once got done for £200 when he tried to buy a phone... he was pissed about it.
I've not been scammed myself. I was going to bid on a box set of The West Wing seasons 1-7 which was quite cheap but I checked out the guy's feedback and it was all from what seemed like a network of people who had been leaving each other positive feedback for mega cheap items like notebooks. Gave it a wide berth.
I've sold something recently and I think I have a non-payer on my hands. I advised I wanted payment within 7 days and on the 6th day she contacts me to say she is going to send a postal order. 4 days later and it is not here...

Generally don't get done on Ebay. It's usually the case that as long as you're looking at a proper photo (in someone's home with proper "house" background) you can figure if something's genuine or not. Ebay don't help with them giving you the option to use generic information and images when you list DVDs, so I usually use both. It usually figures that if something is way too cheap then you're not getting a bargain. The people who buy a supposed "Chloe" handbag for £300 are basically idiots. Even wholesalers can't sell them lower than £800, so cheaper than that and it's fake. Also beware photos that look a bit too good. They're often stolen from the official website (most true with fake Tiffany and fake Abercromie & Fitch). And - sad to say - traders based in Hong Kong (and quite often shell accounts in Australia) often tend to be selling huge amounts of counterfeit stuff.
I've recently had the same trouble as MKF - non payers. I'd never had one before then two in the same round of auctions. Deadbeats

Recently bought an mp4 player (no not a typo, basically an mp3 player with video playback as well) from ebay and didn't really get the product that was on offer although the only difference was the internal soundchip and the touch screen was slightly different yet still the same size. Overall not worth sending it back over as it does still what I want it to do.
