I actually watched the Apple keynote live. Yes, i'm sad.

Unfortunately, whereas I once paid nearly £1300 for my Apple PowerBook, I can't afford it at the moment, so it'll be a long while before I can get the MacBook Air. But i'm fairly sure one will be my next laptop, eventually.

It's soooooo thin it's crazy. Really keen on the LED backlit screen and backlit keyboard. The Powerbook had a backlit keyboard, and it's very handy in the evening.

The keynote also brought new AppleTVs and HD movie and TV rentals from the iTunes Store, which could be big. Microsoft has a big headstart with their 360 Video Marketplace, but Apple is well placed to eclipse that.

I just told my boyfriend to forget any ideas of getting me an engagment ring 'cos I want this instead, lol.

I wonder when we'll get people protesting these size zero models Personally have very little use for a backlit keyboard (touch type) but oh this laptop looks very very very "sexy" and I'm definitely not a mac fan as such, but this is very nice. Hopefully we'll see some non-mac equivalents soon for a bit less.

i was looking at this earlier, and my reaction was the same as with the other big apple releases recently (iPhone &iPod Touch) - "very nice piece of kit - but i wouldnt have one".
with the iPhone & iPod Touch, that was mostly because of the control system (almost impossible to use without pulling it out of your pocket) and limited storage, with this its because its TOO thin - id break it...
its like all those super-slim mobile phones everyones got now - i prefer something a bit chunkier.
my macBook is ideal in this regard - its the equivalent of baby bears porridge - its not too big, its not too small - its just right.
plus my macBook is easier to upgrade than this new thing...
(trust me, i know - i bought it on a wednesday, on the saturday i upgraded the RAM from 1 to 2Gb, ive since gone to 4Gb, and im looking at upgrading the HD from 120Gb to 250...)

I don't really get this laptop.

If it had a few more USB ports I think it would be better. One is just too limiting.

The lack of wired ethernet won't be a problem to most buyers of this thing, but it would be to me. Moving multi GB files over wireless is still a pain even with 802.11n.

The non user replaceable battery isn't too expensive (look at how much a laptop battery costs anyway) but having to get Apple to replace it is a pain.

It's super thin. I'd prefer a smaller format with the same resolution really. Some of the 3 year old Toshiba tablets were getting a better rez with a smaller screen.

The LED backlight sounds good. Lower power & less chance of killing yourself if you take it apart to fix. 12KV hurts f you get it wrong. Also should last longer if you plan to keep it for a few years.

Backlit keyboard? Meh. I can type by the light from the screen.

I guess, the main problem is that I would break it. It's just too thin for me.

I'd seriously consider buying a base model macbook instead but since Apple still think that it is OK to ship a Combo drive instead of a DVD Writer on a £700 laptop I won't be bothering for a while.

TBH, when the new eeepc with the 8 or 8.9" screen comes out. I will prolly be getting one of those. Small form factor, OK ish screen (current eeepc is too small) easily chuckable into a bag & more USB sockets than I need.
