I don't know whether the fact that she's in the public eye is the reason for the marriage being postponed, or whether it's simply her heavy workload which just happens to entail a lot of perfoming in front of the public.

I'm sure a lot of business people who have to fly all over the world for meetings etc put a lot of strain on their relationships too, precipitating postponments and break ups. You just never hear about them 'cos they're not in the public eye.

So I don't think Jo being in the public eye is the reason for her relationship problems. It's just the reason we've found out about them.

On a side note though.. I imagine that 'work related problems' are given as the reason for some celebrity break ups where other factors are to blame (fall-outs, affairs etc.) just to prevent a public scandal.

I think it's a mix of both.

Celeb couples do often spent a lot of time owrking (be it together or apart) which cant be easy.

But having said that they arent going to go on national TV after a break up saying he did this, she did that so they use the "work commitments" excuse.

Have to agree with DJ here. The only reason we heard about it was because they are in the public eye.

The pressures of public life probably didn't help their situation. Yes, they choose to do what they do and have to accept the public will want to know about them (in some cases every detail) but I do think that keeping their private life private must be tough and frustrating for celebrities sometimes (It's tough for us mere mortals to keep our private lives private sometimes - learned that through experience!).

Although with the money some celebs make (see 'Celebs - Are they really worth it?' thread) I'm sure they can (and do) go out and get themselves dozens of bodyguards to ensure their privacy, and build fortresses to live in!

I think celebrities often allow their private life to interfere with their public life.

We have a basic human right to gossip and to pry into the lifes of the famous.

We deserve to know whether Britney is a virgin, whether Will is gay and that Gary Flitcroft has cheated on his wife.

It is the undeniable right of the public to obsessively trawl through the private details of anyone who deems themselves worthy of attempting to entertain us by singing, acting, playing football or by any other means just as it is our right to judge our leaders not by their policies and decisions but by the choices they make in their personal lives.

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, they probably read one of those *boring* papers about news with the small print and big words.

So you think that soley because a person is famous we deserve the right to know everything about them?

What about the more serious facts like we deserve the right to know where the relevant people are hiding the likes of the Bulger (sp?) murderers? I read in a paper this weekend that the police had to spend a ludicrous amount of money protecting one of the individuals. We deserve to know where they are for our own and our families safety, that is our basic human right!

I do think it is a shame that the wedding has had to be postponed, as this is meant to be one of (if not the) happiest day of your life. Agreeing with Red, it must be hard to keep the high profile life of a pop singer and a normal life of us 'mere mortals' separate.

As far as the Bulger case is concerned, discussing that would be a significant digression from the theme of the thread.

It's a real shame that they had to put off the wedding because of her schedule. But they both knew what her lifestyle was like and that it would be difficult for her to fit in a private life. The downside of being a celebrity unfortunately

However, on the flip side, S Club won't last forever (shock, did I just say that?!?) and, if their love is strong, this can be seen merely as a postponement and they can get married when the situation is much better for them both.

But, to your question, yes, celebrities are entitled to a private life. But they also knew that, going into the business, means that it will be on a far reduced scale to Joe Public and that, by their status, the public will naturally follow what they do. At the end of the day, the likes of Victoria Adams who, in the past, has complained about the media attention she gets seems to forgets she is playing the system and is quite happy to use the media when it suits her and moan when it doesn't.

For her, and other celebs like her, they need to realise that they can't have their cake and eat it as well.
