The amount you paid for it all doesn't make the slightest difference to it, it's all old technology (3 years in technological terms is *ancient*).
Coupled with the fact that there is not much of a market, and nobody in their right mind would pay more than about £40-45 for that whole set-up, £20 the pawn shop offered you is about right, after all, they've got to make some money on it. A pawn shop might not be the best place to sell it anyway, try a shop like EB which deal in secondhand games and hardware.
You might have better luck with a private sale in the classified ads, but don't be surprised if nobody touches it with a barge-pole at anything over about £45..

I just did a check on ebay, Identical systems to yours are going for £30-35 with an expansion pack thrown in too.
Anything over £50 doesn't sell, unless it's got 10-20 games.

Looks like you're out of luck.

Of course since I collect nintendo systems value them rather highly

I'm getting rid of mine...I phoned EB (who won't pay cash, btw, they only give you store credit) and they quoted me £97 for the machine, 2 controllers (since one comes with they'll only count the 1 extra), expansion pack, memory card and 14 games. I was only expecting about £60-80ish so I'm chuffed

A few months ago the ex bought a brand new (old stock) Pokemon N64 for my boys and paid £30 for it. Cheeky sod then asked the boys if they wanted that or the Playstation (which was his, but he left it behind). Of course they wanted the nice blue machine with Pikachoo on it so I've lost out on my Tomb Raider fixes We've managed to pick up quite a few games from 2nd hand shops etc for about £5 - £10 each and the boys are happy with it. I won't have to up grade for a few years, unless it breaks. We also have an SNES, Gameboy Colour and Gameboy Advance. If anyone is selling any old N64 games I'll be interested

How can I put this? You are not being ripped off!! Your console is not worth naff all anymore - "a few years ago" don't mean, and won't mean *anything*.
Things depreciate in value, there is simply no way on earth you will get more than about £35 for the lot.
The bare console with a controller is going for £10, most games tend to for about £5, with some of the "bundled" games going for £2-3.
£30-£35 is the most that you'd get for it. period.
The pawn shop has to make some money on what it sells, hence why it only offered you £20.
Giving it away sounds like cutting off your nose to spite your face personally.

I sold a Playstation (The first version, the original shape) last November. Even then I only got around £40 for it (with controllers, memory card and a couple of games) because the price of the PS2 had taken a recent nosedive to around £200.

Oooooooo go look under the bed you'll be suprised at the size of the dust bunnies you can get under there

I recently cleared out my kids rooms and for each bag of toys I sent to the charity shop I sent another bag full of dust to the bin men


Spike I bought a P/S for my kids and got it second hand for £35 plus two controllers two memory cards and 5 games so I dont think your being ripped off sweety

No doubt one of the more science minded people will be able to correct me on this but reaching back to my GCSE physics...

Air moves around a room due to convection currents. Consequently dust doesn't just fall down but circulates the room.

Ahh, the days of retro gaming. I remember the good times of the Atari 2600

yey retro gaming rocks, frankly i dont think many of todays games can matech those of yesturyear, all games nowadays seem to care about is nice graphics, but wheres the gameplay!! i mean probbably my fave game ever is tetris on the gameboy not pretty to look ay but ive been playing regularly since 1989, cant say i can think of a game that has wasted do many of my hours on!!

We had an N64 on a shop display stand in my last work. It sat there on its own for a couple of years because no one bothered to play on it because it was rubbish.

We eventually hacked the display stand to pieces to get at the telly in it so that we could set up an X box instead.
