The prices on the variant figures appear to go up or down depending on who's the most popular at the time.
The *in-thing* at the moment appears to be the Bunny Anya figure.
Most of the normal editions of the figures you can still find at scifi fairs for £9.99 (or a fiver each if you are extremely lucky!)
As for what you do with them - that is normally down to personal choice. Some people don't care whether they are likely to have a collectors value in the future and happily stratch them out of the packets and play with them. Others keep them firmly tucked up and out of harms way. And then you get the odd one or two that like to have 2 sets of things so they can play and appreciate.
I only have the 1st set of figures at the moment - all are tucked up still in their original packaging and will probably stay that way.
