Just got my B5 set (region 1) and it looks great.
WB have actually put some effot into this.
The Package:
The blurb on the back is by JMS himself, and the introduction in the booklet is by Douglas Netter.
The outer packaging is fairly flimsy, like the S1 BtVS DVD set.
They do however appear to have heard about FOX' problems with the rest of the BtVS/Angel sets (I keep all mine in a CD case instead).
The (6) disks are in a large book, but instead of sleeves, there are plastic plates to clip the disks on - so no scratches
The Features:
All episodes are in 16:9 widescreen, and the sound has been remastered to Dolby Digital 5.1.
Episode 13 "Signs and Portents" and 22 "Chrysalis" feature audio commentaries by JMS.
Each disc has 4 episodes on it, except Disc 6 which has the final 3 episodes and the special features.
These are;
The Making of B5 (Vintage documentary)
Back to B5 (New Documentary)
The Universe of B5
Virtual Station Tour.
Well...Babylon 5 is still the benchmark.
It's hard to believe the episodes on this box set are 10 years old.
It still looks better than any other Sci Fi series out there.
The commentaries were great.
My only gripe; disc 2 did not contain disc 2 - it contained the episodes of disc 4.....
I've done some checking and there is a batch of the R1 set with this flaw.
Play.com weren't able to provide a guaranteed set without this error, so I got the UK edition instead.
The discs and content are the same as the R1 set, but the packaging isn't as fancy and lacks the comments by JMS on the back - instead there's a huge white panel saying "For rental and resale only"...
All in all, well worth every penny.
Think link below is for Blackstar, but if want the choice of R2 or R1, then Play is you best bet, as Amazon.com want £50 + p&p.
