T.A.T.U. are appearing on CD:UK on Sat.
I thought their single All The Things She Said is pretty good, produced by Trevor Horn. The video gets played a lot on the music channels on Sky.

I believe JayJay meant to quote your previous post Milky, re: how many current chart acts etc etc.

I don't think the video is that bad. Two girls kissing? - big deal *shrug* Wonder if it would have been so greatly recieved if it was two young lads kissing?
by Milky
how many other current chart acts have got their own thread in the music forum
It wasn't that hard to follow, was it mate?

eww no, yuk. Heard it on the radio
Having heard a few of the songs on mp3, I ordered a copy of the album from play.com which arrived over the weekend. Overall it's a mixed bag of mostly euro-pop, and for the sake of simplicity I'll not consider whether the girls are actually gay or if it's just spin (a la Fem2Fem).
There are a few obvious starting places -- Trevor Horn, the single All The Things She Said and the cover How Soon is Now; Trevor Horn's done a lot of excellent work in the past, and in general his work on this album is very strong, they've clearly benefited from a very experienced producer; but I'm not sure if they slipped on ATTSS -- I think this is a *very* strong song, and that the video detracts from it by drawing attention away, focussing discussion of the song on the wrong things, and making it harder for some people to say they like the song. How soon is now is the other song on the album which will attract attention -- A Smiths cover? Nooo....! but it's done very well indeed, the obvious benefit being that it's an exceptional song -- if you're going to cover something then you should chose something this good else you've nothing to work with; there will be innevitable cries of outrage, but realistically I think it's as good a cover as they could have done, the only weakness being one of the girls voices is slightly weak.
There are two obvious vox probs -- the slight weakness of one of the girls voices (particularly in holding notes, if this is how she sounds after having been through a sound engineer I'd be concerned about her ability to hold notes live), and their English isn't as good as it needs to be -- the Russian language version of ATTSS is in my mind noticeably stronger than the English one. These problems are less noticeable on the Trevor Horn tracks, and are ignoreable, but if they can't be overcome then it will limit their viability; given that the songs are clearly not bubblegum pop they do expose themselves to the challenge that they're just engineered, and lack the bubblegum defence of "of course it's just engineered!".
ATTSS, HSIN, Show me love, and Clowns are all good enough, and make up for weaker songs such as Malchik Gay and the almost-good Stars; if their English improves (inevitable), if the second girls voice strengthens (probable), and if they retain Trevor Horn as producer (debatable) then a second, better focused, album could be very strong (and even if they are gay, the lesbian-chic as marketing gimmick should be dropped).

aye the lesbian-chic thingy seems a bit of marketing cash in like!
apparantly neither TOTP or CDUK will be showing their video.
Plus, apparantly Richard & Judy want them banned.
I wonder what they will make of the video for Prostye dvizhen'ya (I have no idea what the English version of this song will be called)

All the controversy surrounding T.A.T.U. hasn't hamed sales as All The Things She Said is the UK No.1 for a second week.
And they kept Justin Timberlake off the No. 1 spot, so a result all round really!

you know i think its odd that mtv will play this video, with the whole "gay" thing going on, but censor violent delight from syaing the word gay!! i mean is that not really stupid?!?!

You laugh, but they'll probably be head and shoulders over anything else that the other countries put up. Plus they have already been a success round most of Europe.

LOL No way!
I'd make 'em faves to win but we all know how politics comes into the voting...
