I use Soulseek at the moment, used to use Gronkster and IMesh but I was never to keen on either of them..oh how I miss AudioGalaxy though
Where Do You Download Yours?
See, my He's-So-Not-Gay friend Tom, has asked me for recommendations on sites for downloading music. He doesn't mind subscribing, but only using a card to reputable sites (though I presume he'd have no issues paying pay PayPal).
Thing is, I don't. I watch MTV2 and read NME and Kerrang and spend waaaaaaaaaay too much money on CDs at HMV and Amizon. When I had no cash I copied via tapes, and now I have something called Disposable Income, I buy CDs. And the cosmic balance is restored.
So, my point? Oh yeah, seeing as I can't help him I wondered if anyone here could.

I must admit, I still have Kazaa but I can't use it at uni because of the firewall It's so unfair, I have broadband in my room here and everything
I've had to resort to looking for websites with mp3s on them until I can get back home. I found one website that's not too bad: users.tpg.com.au/chjoal/a.html you just have to change the a to whatever letter you want to search under. They have quite a lot there, granted not much of it's my taste but there's probably something you like on it. But p2p is still way better
The latest version of kazaa lite will run over port 80, so it doesn't matter about firewalls It's also spyware free too
Many companies are blocking transparent HTTP/Port 80 connections (requiring them to go via a proxy server first), so don't take Stoo's statement for granted. You may still find yourself not being able to connect.

I don't know if kazaa has the ability to interact with a proxy server. But, be aware that if your company is using a proxy server, access still may be controlled and more importantly your actions will almost certainly be logged!
Don't forget that downloading music without the permission of those to who it belongs is paralegal at best. Tangent 21 does not advocate the downloading of music that shouldn't be downloaded.
A word of warning if your downloading mujsic of Kazaa - ALWAYS refine your search to only flag up audio files, forget firewalls, images are the main problem with Kazaa.
I found a great site to download free music.
Its mp3.optusmobile.com/. Heaps of music.
I download 90% of my songs from there.

Another semi-decent website is www.mp3s4free.net but it's gotten a little pop-up intensive...nothing that bothers you if you have decent adkiller software though
i hated audioglalaxy...bring back Napster i say!
I use Kazaa Lite on my ME comp and morpheus on my XP comp

Kazzaa does work through proxy servers on port 80, although as Gobstopper says, it will be logged in all likelyhood. I know this because none of our users have access out other than via proxy, yet we've caught Kazzaa traffic from users on our Packetshaper.
I use Kazaa. I'm not the sort of person who downloads full albums, I'll usually just search for bands that friends have recommended, listen to a couple of songs, then decide whether or not the album's worth buying. So for that, Kazaa will do for me
As far as Sites go, MP3.com is actually a prety cool pace to find MP3s of smaller and unsigned bands, because the bands put up the pages themselves- so none of the guilt of your everyday MP3 downloading.
