Until i listened to that i wasn't into music at all, i didn't buy it, didn't really listen to the radio. Someone had it at school though, and I had a listen during a break, and loved it. That got me started, and i still love the album.

Now my tastes are incredibly diverse, although at the moment i've drifted away from metal and am in a bit of a hip-hop/rap phase.

Hmmm... I don't think my musical tastes have really had a major dramatic change. They have changed slightly over the years, but it's just been a natural gradual change. When I was little I used to listen to Michael Jackson, Kylie Minogue and I used to like 'novelty' records. And, well as I said, my tastes haven't changed that much...

I can't remember when I first started listening to rock/metal. Possibly it was when my sister bought Guns n' Roses - Use Your Illusion II, possibly it was when a friend of mine brought a couple of Iron Maiden records round to my house, possibly it was neither of these. Again I think it was just a gradual process of hearing assorted bands songs (a lot of it coming out of my sister's bedroom) and liking them, rather than hearing one specific album and it changing my whole musical taste. Although I do remember listening to Chuck Berry and Little Richard in the car with my dad and falling love with the old rock n' rollers...

I think mine was probably the first time I heard 'Pretty Fly for a White Guy' by the Offspring. As soon as I heard that, I went out and bought 'Americana' on a whim. Before that, like Maffrew, I'd never really been into music, let alone having a type of music that I particularly liked! That set me off really...I listened to the Offspring all the way thuogh doing my GCSE's and I still love them now.

I dread to think what I would have been into if I'd been one to follow the crowd...

For me, i don't remember any sort of defining moment. I loved Steps when they were together, but that was the only true pop i liked. Other than than that i grew up listening to stuff like Diana Ross, Whitney Houtston and Elton John and the like as my mum liked it, and i suppose i do now. I don't really think i have a "taste" in music, but i know what i don't like

My music taste has always been the same (except for my Bros phase ). Always liked metal/rock/punk.

For me it was probably a guy called Joe Satriani that defined who I am musically today. There were rumours that there was a guy who taught Little Stevie Vai everything he knew.

When I tracked down some tunes there were times I couldn't even work out WHAT he was doing, let alone HOW he was doing it. So I decided to find out. So far I've just worked out that in order to accomplish my task I DEFINATELY need a more shiny and more expensive guitar.

For me personally it was the very same album as you. Significant Other. I remember listening to that on the way home from the original SHP as it was recommended to me. From them on, I listened to Linkin Park as it was also raved about by Will (At the same party. Loxx on this board).

From then on I never looked back. There are times where I have regressions into my Trance/House side of things. But they are few and far between.

Lots fo songs and lots of albums. I grew up in a house that pretty much always had music playing - usually one of my mums faves, like Roxy Music, Dr Hook or Johnny Mathis. So the first albums to change my world were the ones I first got into off my own back: Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Welcome to the Pleasure Dome, Marrilion's Misplaced Childhood and Queen's A Kind of Magic. Then later, my introduction to Metal with Magnum's Vigilante, and my full immersion into Metal as an identity, not just a style of music, with Metallica's ...And Justice For All.

Later I would relearn that Metal is not the only fruit.. I mean music, when I got into Baggy, starting with the Soup Dragon's Free, and then grunge, when I first heard Nirvana's Bleach.

After that it was more fine tweaking. Realising what I'd missed in the eighties when I first heard The Queen Is Dead, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and Violator. Later Realising Metal start had something to offer when I first heard Adrenaline. Or that Jazz wasn't just for chin-strokers when I first heard A Kind of Blue.

And plenty of others I won't bore y'all further with. Personally, I hope music never stops surprising me. If it does either I'm brain dead, or looking in the wrong places.
