I think these sorts of franchises are ripe for being turned into musicals, but given the greatness of Once More With Feeling, i've got for Buffy.

Personally I hate musicals, so I'd say they would all suck!

and ive gotta agree with noid - i cant stand musicals, hence they would all suck by default.
hell, its well known that OMWF was the one single, solitary thing that halted any lingering interest i may have had in BtVS...

Musicals rule
Have you guys not seen stuff like Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, Jesus Christ Superstar, Lion King, etc, etc? Any musicals in the west end?

The recent musical Scrubs episode was fantastic too, as good as the Buffy one, in different ways.

im always willing to allow a certain degree of suspension of disbelief to anything i see/read, but the situation where a bunch of people simultaneously break out into a massive, perfectly choregraphed song and dance routine - thats pushing it a bit far.
its like watching steven segal kick someone ass, the weird "hacking" sequences in hackers, or having someone tell me that ringo starr was a really good drummer - at best, it detracts from the whole experience, at worst, it destroys it.

As much as I love musicals, I am truly disturbed at the idea of Spiderman becoming a musical.
Is this a belated April Fools!?
Buffy worked as a 45 mins episode, as have other send ups of musical episodes, but I can't honestly see any of the above working as a stage show

I think they could all work, it's just a case of having someone good enough to rewrite the material well and provide good music.

Buffy's probably the best contender. The music episode wasn't just the one decent outing from season six, it had some very hummable tunes. BBC1 should consider casting a Buffy musical after Joseph has been presented with his oversized nappy.
Simpsons would be good as well, they've always managed an amusing song. Perhaps the forthcoming movie will have a South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut feel (minus the Viking lyrics ... probably).

I don't think Oliver's been on a West End stage for a while now. I saw it back in 1996 ... which makes me feel awfully old.
The perennial Les Miserables is of course still running, although it's changed theatres recently. The Palace Theatre now hosts Spamalot. (After enduring the thousandth pissed-up version of the Parrot Sketch, the landlord of the nearby Marquis of Granby is probably missing the Les Mis Lemmings. )

I love musicals. I think they're fabulous and the idea of people randomly just bursting into song makes me smile I would love to be in a musical but obviously am not talented enough. Nor could I fit it into my schedule. If I'd known about the Maria auditions I would have gone... hence keeping an eye out for other similar things, lol!
My favourite musical of all time has to be Les Miserables. I've seen it three times already and would gladly see it three more times. I've also seen Oliver, Joseph, Phantom, Chicago, Cats and Footloose the Musical. Probably others too on TV etc. Can't get enough!

I think theres a distinct difference between what makes a good stage musical and what makes a good TY/Film musical.
We Will Rock You, Cats and Starlight Express are excellent but I don't see it working on film and the Buffy musical episode was fantastic but again I can't see it happening on stage.
Only a few make the leap sucessfully and I'm as suprised about Spamalot as anyone else

Posted: 19:10 May 01 2007 Lion King made a fantastic musical, I reckon Cats would make a great Disney film, moving the opposite way. They've already got a Cat film of course, but I reckon the Cats songs with some good Disney animation would be a winner.

I've never like musicals. I think the only musical I can look at is Grease. Whoever thought about making Spider-Man into a broadway musical got the idea from Universal Studios Hollywood who had a Spider-Man rocks musical show about 2 years ago. I use to work that show and I must say...if the broadway show is the same as Spider-Man Rocks at Uni. don't waste your money.
