But what do people see "a little" as being? Coppers from your wallet, a fiver, £20?

I donated a little money, but at the same time it was what i could afford and i've got a bag full of clothes waiting to be donated.

Whoever the non-believer is, what's your reason for not believing? It's not as if this was their fault or anything...

Well both my kids schools are doing appeals... Joel participated in a non uniform day and the whole school raised over £400 and Hannah's school are doing an on going collection where they take in loose change to fill up some water bottles, we'll find out how much they've raised by the end of this week.

Personally we've donated at supermarkets mostly where there have been collection buckets at the end of the check outs and made donations of clothes and other such stuff at our local Oxfam.

I clicked the can't afford to option but then realised that through the kids school and their Beavers group I've donated a little under £20.

I think people realise that it wasn't anyones fault but I know a great deal of people who'd rather donate to charities closer to home. I can't afford to give to every charity for whatever reason, be it natural tragedy or an on-going cause (like hospitals or animal charities). I tend to donate to child based charities in this country more than anything else.

There was a big post about this on a LJ community site with people debating whether we should get this contry sorted first so the government is more able to donate. I didn't read it properly, these views are not nessecarily mine and I don't want to get into a big Byron/ Milky/ whoever long winded (and worded) debate about it 'cos quite frankly they confuse me

I put a fiver in the collection box at work and im going to a charity dinner that an MP friend of mine has arranged which was £15 and theres gonna be an aution and a raffle too so that'll be more money.

I am happy to do it but then i feel we should be doing things for the people here that have been affected by floods too, like in scottland and boscastle.

I *just* clicked the 'non believer' button as Lil_Miss called it. I have actually given some cash but I dunno...the whole Tsunami thing has been blown *way* out of proportion to me.

Now don't get me wrong, it's a terrible tradgedy and I feel tremendously sorry for everyone who lost their lives/loved ones/homes/livelihoods etc but I can't understand where all this overwhelming need to donate money for this cause has come from. Why donate to this and not cancer research, famine in africa, displaced people in Iraq, the homeless guy sitting outside Kings Cross tube station? Maybe I'm just a hard nosed cynic *shrug*

i donated some money, and also at College we're filling these aquaboxes which provide some stuff for clean water and we've got to bring in other things on a list which could also be put into boxes, so we've brought some stuff in for that too. I think it's quite a good idea with the boxes i've been hearing that they're worried the money may fall in the wrong hands and i figure that people are hardly gonna have a bucket falling into the wrong hands

I'm of the belief that charity begins at home.
I give to charities that mean something to me, personally.
It's not that I'm against giving to these people. I mean, they lost *everything* & they definately deserve the help.
I just don't think that we should hafta give to this charity first, just because it's current. Just because it's a 'disaster'.
I give to Cancer & AIDS charities because I know people who've died from both. I give to battered women's charties because I've known battered women. I give to children's charities (to be a bit trite, they are the future, afterall). I give to animal charities because they've helped us with our animals in the past. I give to London homeless charities because...well, because I live in London & I don't like seeing them around as much as I'm sure they hate being homeless themselves.
I don't give (as a rule) to charities like the tsunami one because, to be frank, they just don't have anything to do with my life. Not just me, but my life as a Londoner & an English person.

I donated £3 on my card, then emptied all my change into collection boxes. So around £7 I have donated. I can't really afford to give much more but I have also donated a large bag of clothes. I think the Tsunami disaster was horrific, but now they have a lot more aid and we need to focus on country's like Africa. If the public gave a £1 to Oxfam this would really help the problems in Africa.
