With a pint being 99p it's cheaper to drink yourself over the limit than it is to receive police check warnings on your mobile

With the credit crunch and the smoking ban all I don't think it's a bad thing to ensure business keeps going. Plus who drinks that particular type of beer anyways? Never tried it myself... might have to give it a go just to check next time I'm at that particular chain of pubs

I don't think 99p a pint is such a good thing. Wetherspoons can afford to make these cuts yet pubs like where I work(ed) can't afford to keep up the competition therefore struggle to stay afloat. Mind you 'my' pub has a good live band reputation so I doubt they will struggle in the long run but the smaller businesses will.

If anyone could hear drunken idiots in my neighbourhood in their current state, I doubt they'd see 99p pints as a good thing - the least these idiots need to get is even more drunken.

Too sensible? Idiots round my end? No.

Just helps with the negative inflation, cant be a bad thing in the long term, I am always amazed how things cost 17 and a half pence in the 1970's sitcoms which are now like £2.00

Teetotal, but I'll back up the feeling that cleaning up the disorder when the consumers of these cheap pints've rampaged through every front garden in your road just isn't worth it.

It's a tricky situation with pubs facing a drop in business due to people tightening belts, but I find the idea ultimately pointless, since the supoermarkets will ultimately be able to sell alcohol as a loss leader.

They are actually looking at possible new regulation that would stop supermarkets from selling alcohol as a loss leader by linking a minimum price to the units of alcohol a drink contains.

I heard about that - but at the moment, I think it's only in Scotland that it's been announced rather than being still in the theorising stages.

(Edit: The Welsh Assembly Government've announced that they'll be pushing for it, too.)
