Spoiler brat that I am, I checked out the episode review on buffy.com - it's his soul that gets returned, but no mention of clauses. Hmmm...

chip...soul...human...
so theres been a big debate over sspikes request to become what he formerly was, whether he'll get it.
i think...and please if you've seen the ep, corretc me
...that he *wants* the chip out, but will end up wiht somehting different...i can't decide if it'll be humanity(i sincerely hope not tho') or a soul (hopefully without that happiness clause).
Thing is i don't want Spike to end up with a soul so i'm hoping against hope that he just ahs the chip removed.
can anyone thats seen Grave fill me in? (details about the rest of the ep would be nice too

yikes hope they do it well then...
can't remember if i read something about it on here or somewhere else...but couldn't all of the prophesy's about Angel and the vampire with the soul be about Spike. If the trials were for Spikes to get his soul back, he's earned it rather than being cursed with it like angel.

I have to say that Spike with a soul opens up a whole new set of problems for angel - Lets face it, he can't be so damn sure that all those prophesies are about him. What about that one at the end of season one about the 'vampire with a soul' becoming human eventually(or some such) What if that's about Spike?!?
And, obviously with a soul Spikes gonna be all tortured and stuff because of everything he's done as a vampire so he'll haver to undergo a complete personality change. Can't see him being quite so keen on boffing Buffy with all that going on
I just hope he doesn't get all 'oh my lot in life is so hard' like Angel used to be though.

ah! no bleached hair! thats sooo odd, could be cool tho' 
there are so amny spoilers and rumors around about Spike at the mo'. A lot of stuff is about him not have a total grip on his sanity, and living in the new high school basement...
Anya is meant to figure out that he has a soul first and then Buffy who, surprise surprise, can't deal.

I'm a bit wary about what they are goiing to be doing with Spike over the next season. If he has his soul back, does that mean that he is now human ??? After all, the request was for him to be 'returned to his former self'. That ould suggest that he has his soul returned and is made human. His former self was not a vampire with a soul. Returning him to his former self would suggest that they make him human again yes??
Here's hoping Spike doesn't go all broody !!

I kind of agree with you there, although I have a feeling that Joss would be keen for pople not to think that, and so woud want to do something different with the concept.

Ok here the throry i was told (you know who you are and thanks, ts a great idea!)
ok Spike gets his soul back, now whether he is human, Vamp with a soul or a daywalker this theory works.
remember back in the last ep of season 5 (i think ?) with all the dreams. there was Xanders one. he saw Giles and Spike on a swing and Spike said Giles was teaching him to be a great watcher.Now if anybodys reads Fray, about a distant future slayer, they'll know that she has a watcher, but he's a demon, as thats who watches the slayers now. Sooooo, Could Spike be the first of the demon watchers? Buffy will lose Giles again as he returns to blighty with Willow, so maybe to atone for his past, Spike will become a silent 'watcher'.
