Besides it's always been made known that the original cast only signed up for 7 seasons after that it was upto the actor/ess to decide whether or not they'd be willing to sign for more and a lot of the cast have made it public they dont plan to. but who knows.

There's no way on earth Season 8 is anywhere near being started, they're still filming season 7!
Besides, as EW point out they're only contracted to Season 7, afterwhich they'd have to re-negotiate.
Makes me wonder if SMG is angling for more money again - She kicked up a stink last time the contracts were up for debate..

i am a newbie here but this is what i have read from magazines and the net etc.

emma caulfield has not signed up for season 8. she is "graduating" from buffy at the end of this season (7). SMG has not signed up for the 8th, but everyone else has. Her contract is up in May, she is unsure whether she will remain on the show. She wants to continue in her films and make that the main thing she does.

i've heard that joss will either turn dawn to be the Vampire Slayer or faith will come back. somehow... but u know joss, we fans are never really told of his plans. but dawn as a vampire slayer is just weirdness. because she doesnt really exist... even now.

ooh and dawn is going back to a re-built Sunnydale High School adnd will be joined by Kit (a goth girl) and Carlos (a guy who can be seen as a bully but really isnt).

I still think it's just SMG going for a higher salary..

Well If SMG does quit, and you went to watch Scooby-Doo - we know who's to blame!

Buffy will not be killed off. Fact - she wont. as:
1. they would always want her back( if she does go at end of s7) as Buffy is the key character.
2. If sarah's movie career goes down the pan, she will want to return, so they will be aware of this and would grab her back- so how they gonna do that if they killed her?
3. who would be the new slayer? Dawn maybe, but im not taken by it. i feel they will either:
a) bring back faith
b) have a new slayer.

SHE WONT DIE- OK.

Not really, seeing as Joss has said before that he has *no* qualms about killing characters, I mean Buffy's died a few times already..

Besides, I think that if Sarah wishes to leave then she probably would insist that the character be killed off to stop anyone taking over *her* role as it were.

Anyway, I don't think there's much left to explore in the character now after what will be 7 seasons.

ooooooooooh get u. lol. Nah ur right stoo. 7 seasons is along time, and it's starting to become lifeless.After Glory we know slayer, sister group of friends who arent always friends, now its the end of the world..yada yada yada.

As far as Sarah not being killed off because she won't be able to come back - Amber Benson is still around in Season 7 and she was killed - what's to stop them bringing Sarah in and out of Season 8 as a sort of 'spirit guide' type figure? Although I hope they don't - it would be *too* cheesy

As far as Dawn being the new slayer, I agree Dawn can't be the new slayer as she doesn't exist. How can the slayer torch be handed down to her if she isn't a 'real' person?

Well, it's not so much her not being allowed to come back, more like her not wanting to come back, moving on with her career and all that.

But as I've mentioned before, SMG does have a habit of kicking up a stink about leaving right before her contract comes up for renewal, so who really knows? *shrug*

baby doll- i meant they wont bring sarah bak as buffy- she wont earn alot if she's not her usual character- i bet her salary would be cut- and she wont let that happen! she'll either end the show alltogether- but they will never kill her off and do seasons of BUFFY the vampire slayer.
