New Buffy Spin off?!?!?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (News), which to the dismay of millions ended on May 20th, 2003 was that show, and for almost seven years Buffy & the Scooby gang enthralled millions of fans every week. But like everything in the Buffyverse, nothing stays burried for long, and you can't keep a good slayer, urmÂ… Slayers down. That's right on January 15th, Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar, Scooby Doo & Scream 2), Willow (Allyson Hannigan, American Wedding), and Xander (Nicholas Brendon, Children of the Corn 3) will suite up once again to fight the good fight, as films begins. The Premium Cable channel, Showtime has just inked a deal with Buffy creator Joss Whedon and 20th Century Fox, for a new spin-off "The Chosen" which is set to premiere Summer 2004. The Show will star Buffy alum's Allyson Hannigan, Nichalos Brendon, Tom Lenk, Anthony Stuart Head, and Michelle Trackenberg and will follow the story of the Scooby's rebuilding the Watchers Council (Watchers found, trained, and guided all the vampire slayers), while Buffy tries to find herself. So far the recurring guest stars are Eliza Dusku (Tru Calling), David Boreanaz (Angel), Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Donald Sutherland. 20 Episodes have been ordered, but no scripts have been written. So It looks like you really can't keep a good slayer down (or at least her friends).

Is anyone doubting this as much as me?? Didn't SMG say bye bye to Buffy for good, she didn't even wanna guest star on Angel. She's either not found any work or this is a load of horse hooey!

It might as well be Buffy Season 8 with that description. And Donald Sutherland? Can't really see it myself.

Sounds like cack to me...for starters why Donald Sutherland??

I could see a spin-off tv movie being made as the way the show ended with the power of the slayer being given to all the potentials you would only really need one link to Buffy to make the story feasable(an appearance by Willow/Giles/Xander) but I don't see anything being made which has everyone in it.

He was the Watcher in the Original Film. But I think he died in it.

Yeah I knew that but as you say..he died in it, I can't see it being worth the money to have the ghost of Merrick wondering around..and do you think Sutherland would do a tv movie??

Donald Sutherland and Joss did not get on at all when making the film, and he wouldn't be asked back in any form. Would be fun if it was true, but i'm sure its a fake.

This does smack of someone trying to make a name for themselves on the net by spreading a rumour like this.

And, anyway, as has already been said, this would just amount to relaunching Buffy rather than being a spin-off.

Joss actually called Donald Sutherland a wanker in an interview about two years ago, so I somehow doubt he'd be cast in a "Spin off".

And i seriously doubt David Boreanaz would have the time to make guest appearances considering how busy he is with Angel.

i agree, it sounds a bit fishy to me. by the way, has anyone heard about the other spin-off that is supposed to be coming out soon? i read in buffy the official magazine that there was supposed to be one called ripper, with giles (tony head) but i havent heard anything since.

Ripper was meant to be a mini-series for the BBC but i'm pretty sure that the idea died.
