It's far from confirmed. Peter Mayhew does have a clause in his contract that says if they make Episodfes 7, 8 and 9, he would be required to be in them. Also, some companies have been given contracts extending to 2012.

However, this is just keeping the foot in the door. Lucas has been saying for years that he won't make them and recently he's been said (and said himself) to be almost to the point of fed up of Star Wars. It's dominated his life for decades and he can't wait to do something else.

So for now, i'd take this as him keeping his options open. It's not confirmation of anything.

I really can't see him not doing it to be honest, it's just too much of a temptation for him to earn even more money..

I wouldn't blame him for being fed up. And to be honest, I'd quite like to see him direct something else, re-prove himself. But that doesn't stopp him writting the stories for a 3rd trilogy and handing it over to someone else like with Empire and Jedi.
Didn't he already write a follow up trilogy in novel form anyway?

Nope, although there are a lot of Lucasfilm sanctioned novels which follow the characters from the end of ROTJ till about 25 years later. Theres at least 30 novels if not more.

i thought that he did write all nine scripts but he never published the last three, like he didnt publish ep 1&2 untill he decided to make them.

Nope...when he originally wrote Star Wars, the story he ended up with was far to big to make into a movie. So he trimmed the story down and moved some things around to create the original Star Wars film. His original story is very different to what the movies became. For example in ROTJ the ewoks were supposed to be wookies but for commercial reasons ewoks were invented as they were smaller & cuter and would appeal to the kid fanbase that Lucas was aiming merchandise at.

Lucas has always had the basic ideas of what happened before Star Wars(the fall of Anakin) but he finished his original arc early with ROTJ(the redemption of Anakin). However he never had scripts written for all of this until he went into pre-production on each film.

i knew the ewoks were supposed to be wookies in his first draft, just like the wookies were supposed to be like the ewoks in that they were primative, however chewie got too sufisticated for that, what with repairing the falcon and all, so he made them inteligent.
