Corny, but damned creepy. I like the way fingers being chopped up sounds exactly the same as carrots
Angel 5.04: "Hellbound" Discussion Thread
This was an absolutely corking episode in my opinion.
I was completely spoiler free for this episode and i lost count how many times i jumped in my seat. It was suitably spooky and i thought genuinely spine tingling in parts.
The guy cutting his fingers off for a start!!!, even with technicolour surround sound!.. yikes!. And the lady with the glass sticking out of her eyes (make up folk must've worked overtime in this episode because it was all excellent)
I was reminded slightly of a part of Buffy's "Amends" when Spike kept seeing the spirits.. the hanged man, the woman with no arms etc.
But this was Spike's episode, even for me it didn't matter that Angel basically took a step sideways.. though a couple of things nagged me, like before he realised that he could eventually touch objects, how the heck did he manage to sit down beside Angel when he was non-corporeal?.
And Pavayne, i think more in the way he spoke, reminded me a heck of a lot of Holtz, very soft, very English.
And the interaction between Fred and Spike was great though i laughed out loud when Spike essentially said his goodbyes when Fred was trying to work out a way to save him and then he realised what she was trying to do, the look on his face was hysterical, til she had to go back to square one.
There were a lot of shocks in this episode, as i said, the man sawing his fingers off, the medium who i assume was killed by Pavayne (that made me jump the most)and the woman with the glass shard sticking out of her eye.
One minor grump... whomever is in charge of Angel's wardrobe could they please reintroduce the long sleeved sweaters that he wore in earlier seasons, or at least looser shirts. I love the suits, i just don't think the shirts do him any favours. They're not flattering to him at all. But hey, the hair style is improving
Great episode. Good scaryish fun

Loved it!
Tense one minute, laughing out loud the next and found myself cheering for Spike when he worked out how to fight back (so loud i scared my cat, Alphy hehe).
Really enjoying the interactions between Spike and Fred.
What about Gunn and the White room? Angel feeling a little irked methinks. Wonder if that's gonna be taken further .....

Great ep, although like with many other programs that have ghosts in things just dont add up, Spike can walk through walls yet doesnt fall through the floor, well apart from last night where he fell through a table and the floor.
Must admit it was good to see a "Spike" ep, I didn't like the fact they held onto that guy though, think he might be back?

It was really creepy how that guy has to stay locked up in that cell forever. Even though he killed tons of people I thought it was really disturbing.
The ep was good but I'm not the hugest spike fan, although he's a lot better in Angel than in the latest seasons of Buffy. would have prefered to see much more angel.

I never expected to be so scared and paranoid watching an Angel ep ever!! Not helped by seeing the fingers so early on
To start with we were discussing if the other ghosts were people that Spike had tormented when he was on killing sprees, but the introduction of the Reaper (yes very Holst like - we thought so too ) was of great intrigue. I'm not sure if any of you have seen the film Thirteen Ghosts, but I was starting to wonder if W&H had him locked in a basement in the same way as those ghosts. When they locked him up at the end, it reminded me of when Angel was dropped to the bottom of the sea.
Shame to see that Spike missed out on becoming corporial, but he's funny as a ghostie thing. Having been worried about him passing across to Angel, with the whole W&H new show angle, he has come to enhance this new series and I've all but forgotten how odd season 4 had become
But it's only when he's taken unawares, that he seems to fall through furniture and the floor in this episode for example, which then in turn may have reinforced to him that he can't touch things (because he has been trying to touch them wrong - like in the Ghost movie )

I suppose you could blanket it over saying it's because he wants it, the Reaper was saying in his world you see yourself how you want to be seen with clothes etc. Perhaps Spike has previously not been realising he is *wanting* to wear the clothes, *wanting* to be seen to be walking on a real floor. It's a long shot I know
