I haven't seen this yet but I am trying to get a hold of the episodes. It sounded like a good show before it was canned

I never saw this either. I always meant to watch it when it was on, but I managed to miss every episode.

Although I spotted the complete series on DVD in HMV's sale the other day and I was quite tempted. Those who've seen it: is it worth it?

They repeated it on the Sci-Fi Channel about a year ago, I didn't see all of it but what I did see was quite good.

I never heard of it when it was on TV, but I was reccomended it when it came out on DVD. Well worth it in my opinion. As MonSTeR mentioned, lots of fun toys.

I've got the videos from when they were first released and let me say..Yes it is good. Much more science rather than magic.

It was only meant to be a single series, with no plans to make a second. There were rumours of a US version but I think that that idea was stopped pretty quickly. It had some good ideas and was open ended enough to warrant a second series but no one has shown the slightest interest in actually making it.

It was a good series, yes. And very clever in that they managed to avoid the 'V' word all the way through (deliberatley I understand. They didn't want to be seen as just another 'V' show).

Annoyingly, I never got to the see the final episode, which has driven me quite nuts for a long time. However now I have a DVD player in the house I'm hoping some nice Rally type person will lend me his copy and put me out of my misery

There's supposed to be some hidden interviews and other stuff on the DVDs

I think there was suggestions of doing a second series after the first one proved to be so successful, and the writer / creator was up for it. However, there was then some change in the management at Ch4, and the decision was made that Ch4 was not the kind of channel that wants to make shows about vampires, no matter how successful...Nope, they'll just buy them in from abroad instead and then hack them to pieces

As for the American version, they did make a pilot for it, although only Idris Elba (Vaughan Rice, the soldier) made it across from the British cast. It didn't go to series though, and I don't know if it will ever see the light of day.

Actually, thinking about it, I still have Idris' contact details from when he did N99 for us, and I the rest of the main cast are all London based at the mo'. Would anyone be interested if I can try and get them together for a Sunday event?

Absolutely Brilliant series and as always they cancel it.
Great cast too, with the Lush Jack Davenport, ohhh
and Philip Quast tooo!!!! , fabulous actor and wonderful singer, I saw him as Javert in Les Miserables (must calm down now)

As I recall they were kind of late of the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (which really is the new name for the Holy Inquisition; they have a website and everything), but now ran on Gov-mint money. There was that line about how 'the Church doesn't really like to talk about evil anymore', but that it's a public health and defence issue.

The videos are very confused. Whoever wrote the blurb on the back of the box seems convinced that the vampire hunters were CIB (the police Complaints Investigation Bureau), which was just their cover in the first episode.

If I were to do it, it would probably be London, simply because it cuts down on the actors' travel costs. They're all in London at the mo', and having to travel, when they are working all the rest of the week, might be something they don't really fancy.

Anyway, this is moving this thread a little of topic, and perhaps towards the meets section, so if anyone wants to discuss this aspect further (as opposed to the series in general), bring it up as a new thread in that section. I don't want to bug everyone else who just wants to chat about the show.

Absolutely loved Ultraviolet too. Even bought it in on VHS and DVD. The thing that appealled to me most was the attention to detail - the logical extensions of vampirism and the effects of technological and social change - and the terribly realistic ambiguity about the secret war with the Leeches.

I keep thinking I want a replica of that gun sight/camera unit!

Did anythinh come of the meeting discussions? I'd particularly love to hear Joe Ahern talk about the programme.

Well I've finally worked my way through the DVD and for the most part I was really impressed.

Jack 'Miles' Davenport can't act but all of the other team members really seem to grow into their parts (especially Idris Elba).

I found the final episode somewhat confusing and silly which was a shame since the penultimate one had been so strong.

I loved the dramatic tension of Vaughan in the warehouse with the boxes and the countdown timer. Absolutely brilliant writing, acting and directing.

All in all, I thought the series was excellent but lacked polish at times and a couple of dud performances almost let it down.

It also seemed to be setting the scene for a second series and it is a shame that nothing has materialised. I wonder who has the rights now?

I rather liked it. Right to the end, there's still that element of uncertainty about whether the war was still justified or not.

I particularly loved the way he calls Angie's number just to hear her voice one last time. A really touching scene.
