Stargate 8.1
What did people think about the first episode of Stargate season 8?
I thought it was excellent and bodes well for the season. I really like the replicators and glad they are back.
Recently I've thought Stargate has been losing it a bit and should have ended a couple of years ago (I even had to leave another forum after saying this and getting a host of abusive e-mails in return!). However the start to this season was encouraging. I didn't think Jack was missed at all and I think it shows the show can cope without him if he can't fit filming into his schedule. (OK it was only one episode - but I though it was the best one for a while)

I finally got around to watching this last night. It took enough shock to recover from the opening credits.
I mean hair ... Teal'c with ... NOOOOO ... there's something unnatural about that
Everything seemed to tick along with Weir trying to call the shots. Although certain things were creeping in for me, Samantha looks like she's spent the summer on a tanning bed and the salon Daniel seems to still be harbouring the arrogance that sprouted ever since he fell back to reality. I guess I missed the quips that Jack would throw in now and then.
Although, I felt more sorry for Thor. He's sat watching the replicators fall into his newly created blackhole. He's having an easy life and then Sam & Teal'c (their bonding convo was hilarious with the one liners ) drop into his ship and all hell breaks loose with the replicators deciding today would be the day to escape
Back at the stargate command, I was even more shocked to see Gary Jones (yeah I'm sure he has a character name really ) emerge from the gateroom to hand Weir a message. Perhaps I just wasn't taking this episode seriously afterall.
I suppose I'm sitting on tenderhooks waiting to see what Atlantis brings. I've heard rumours that once you've seen that it makes the original Stargate seem even better as the banter and atmosphere is not the same.
I love my cheese, but this was a little ott for an opening episode. Maybe I just don't like change too much

I've been impressed with most episodes of Stargate this season. It's been better than the last couple of seasons so far IMHO. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Sam naked and covered in Jelly! Oh and I'm looking forward to seeing more of the replicators as well.
Does any else think the Stargate Sg1 has sort of lost the plot a bit this season.
They never seem to leave earth and this week was a clip show. Watched it on Fast forward for the most part.
Might give up on it now it just getting too boring.

I have to disagree- Prometheus unbound was both offworld and an excellent episode, Gemini with the evil repli-carter was outstanding, and there have been some rather good developments regarding Kinsey and the trust that have been a joy to watch. As for Citizen Joe, this years clip show... well, for one thing, there is nearly ALWAYS a clip show. They do one every year.
Personally, I'm vastly enjoying season eight- by all accounts things are going to carry on hotting up in this past part of the season, with encouraging reveiws of the episodes yet to air- Moebius parts 1 and 2 are reputed to be hilarious.
Everyone's entitled to an opinion *grin*.
*wanders off looking forward to the rest of the season, and to the prospect of seeing Ben Browder and Claudia Black in it next year, woohoo!*
