Doctor Who 28/2x13 Doomsday
Wow.... that was... significant.
I'll probably need to meditate on the episode for a bit to put together anything aproaching an intelligent review, but the initial thoughts as they pop into my head:
Crowded. It certainly packed a lot in, character and plot wise, and wasnt always better off for it, but then with Billie leaving there was probably more to tie up than was originally intended. Genesis Ark, Cross dimension transports, Pete Tyler, that bloke from that soap, super-Daleks, Mickey, special radiation, Jackie and soforth...
Daleks get sarcastic? YOU-ARE-BETTER-AT-DYING! Ooo-hooo, get him.
Things were a bit too intentionally crowd pleasing, like the Torchwood boss/cyber(wo)man... voice was still feminine because?? Cried a tear of oil because??? Because it gets a cheer.
Black Dalek teleports away in time, now they arent even pretending they arent coming back in a few episodes time!
A cyberman's head blowing up is as satisfying as it was in The Five Doctors in 1983.
Farewell Rose. Did anyone actually believe she was going to die after the episode telegraphed it? (well I did just a bit). It was a pretty decent farewell, although Rose has already spent all her blub tokens in previous episodes for this not to feel a bit much. Still it was a good end, all the Tylers together, plus Mickey and future sprog.
Catherine Tate? Where the hell did that come from? I have to repress my instincts that shes about as funny as sandpaper underpants, hopefully she can actually act. Interesting to see how the Christmas Special pans out...
So ends the second series of Doctor Who, how do we feel its panned out compared to last year?

Because it made sense with the 'resistance' thing. She obviously wasn't fully 'Upgraded' - probably because the CyberLeader died at the same time as she was going thourgh the process. It was enough to retain her 'personality' and kept her emotions. The feminine voice was needed to make it clear to the audience who she was. In my mind the speech about 'Duty' wouldn't quite have been enough. I felt it worked very well as a redemption for the Yvonne Character for getting us into the mess in the first place!

If anything the trading of insults between the Daleks and Cybermen was too intentionally crowd pleasing. Though I'm not complaining because I loved it!!

As someone on LJ has said... you half expected the Cybermen to retort with "See that Pepperpot. That's your Mum that is"
Thought the Tyler family stuff was dealt with really well and I'm pleased that Jackie got a happy ending more than anything else. The things that woman has put up with. Although, she has got to live with Harriet Jones as president "ooooooo watch out for that one"
Not that impressed with the goodbye scene. Thank goodness that the Doctor didn't say it.
Total shocker for the final few minutes. I was expecting a tardis noise with a fade to black. Not Catherine bloody Tate!! Looks like the Christmas Special could be fun.
All in all a top notch finale and I think I enjoyed it more than the Season 1 finale.

I was waiting ages for you to start this thread yesterday because i had so much to say and now i cant remember what i was going to say
I loved the episode. The last couple have been not as great as they could have been but this one made up for it.
The banter between the Daleks and the Cybermen was class, best lines in the series.
I havent liked Rose in awhile, not since they started the whole 'oh rose is going to be gone soon so lets really kick the point home and make it all "ill never leave you" crap' but that way it was written i felt so sorry for her because the man she loves never told her he loved her back and thats going to leave her heartbroken for years.
And i admit i had to cry when The Tennant cried

Do you think The Tennant will have little cameos in Torchwood now that he knows about it? Altho i supose he cant because they've set up the christmas ep now.

but not a bad ending - tied up a few loose ends, left the door open for micky'n'rose to come back, and gave us the possibility of more inter-species warfare.
i remember the days when everyone love rose and hated mickey - yet over the last few weeks, theres been a total shift - many people have grown tired of her, but think mickey is the mutts nuts - anyone else think this is weird??
and as for next season - could we PLEASE have some storylines that dont involve going back to earth to visit the companions family every other week?? its very distracting...

Well if you believe what the production team say, they think thats the only thing that keeps half the viewers watching, and if it gets a bit too detatched from everyday life, people lose interest.

It annoys me, as a scifi fan, but it annoys me even more that they might actually be right, there are millions out there who watch Eastenders but wouldnt touch Battlestar for instance.
I guess we can prefare ourselves for Martha's... brother? Uncle? Gandmother?
